Frequently Asked Questions

Which tour should I choose?
The Lake Yamanaka Discovery Tour is perfect for those seeking panoramic views, photography opportunities, and cultural sites. It's our most popular option with easier accessibility. The Lake Tanuki Adventure is ideal if you want interactive nature experiences, dramatic reflections, and don't mind moderate hiking through lava caves. Both showcase Mount Fuji from completely different perspectives.
Can I customize my tour or combine both routes?
Customize? Absolutely! Each tour has flexible stops we can adjust based on your interests and fitness level. However, it isn’t possible to combine both tours in a single day, as one explores the eastern side of Mount Fuji and the other the western side — each requiring a full 5–6 hours on its own. If you're staying multiple days, we'd love to show you both perspectives of Mount Fuji.
What's included in the tour price?
Your tour includes an English-speaking guide with 30 years of local experience, private transportation in a comfortable vehicle, entrance fees if any, and all the knowledge and stories that make each location special. Food and beverages are separate, though we can recommend excellent local spots or plan meal stops based on your preferences.
Where do you pick up guests?
We offer pickup at Fujisan (Mt. Fuji) Station, Kawaguchiko Station, or your hotel in the local area. When you book, we'll coordinate the most convenient meeting point for your travel plans. The Fuji Five Lakes area is about 90 minutes from central Tokyo by train or highway bus.
What should I bring and wear for each tour?
For the Yamanaka Tour: Comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing, and your camera. For the Tanuki Adventure: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots (cave floors can be slippery), layers, and rain gear. Mountain weather changes quickly, so being prepared for various conditions is always smart regardless of the forecast.
Are the tours suitable for families with children?
Yes! The Yamanaka Tour works well for all ages with mostly easy walking on established paths. The Tanuki Adventure requires more physical activity due to cave exploration and uneven terrain, so we recommend it for children 8 and older who enjoy hiking. We can adjust either tour based on your family's energy levels and interests.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 2-4 weeks ahead, especially during peak seasons like cherry blossom time (late March-April), autumn colors (October-November), or summer holidays. Our maximum group size is 4 guests to maintain a personalized experience, so spots fill up. That said, sometimes last-minute bookings are possible - just reach out and ask!
What if Mount Fuji is covered by clouds?
While we can't control the weather, Mount Fuji is most visible in the colder months (October-February). If clouds obscure the mountain on your tour day, the surrounding lakes, shrines, forests, and cultural sites are still spectacular. We'll adjust the route to maximize what's beautiful that day. If weather is severe enough to cancel, you'll be offered a reschedule or full refund.
Do you provide tours in languages other than English?
Currently, tours are conducted in English. With 30 years in Japan, I can share cultural insights and translate when needed, but the primary tour narration is in English.
What makes a local guide different from bus tours from Tokyo?
Large bus tours run on fixed schedules with big groups and limited flexibility. As a local guide with over 30 years in the region, I can share perspectives many visitors miss — from the panoramic eastern lakes to the dramatic western Shizuoka side. With a small group of up to 4 guests, you’ll enjoy personalized attention, a relaxed pace, and the freedom to spend more time at the places that matter most to you.
